The facilitation circle — cerchio di animazione in Italian — is a spatial and relational arrangement used in group facilitation and socio-cultural animation. Sitting in a circle removes a privileged front, makes participants visible to one another and can support speaking, listening and a sense of community.

A circle alone does not guarantee participation or equality. Quality depends on the task, shared rules, distribution of time, the option not to speak and the facilitator’s response to imbalances. It can support openings and closings, storytelling, discussion, decisions or reflection on an experience.

Giovanna Corni also interprets the circle as a theatrical archetype of community. The Manifesto degli Animatori places it within a broader understanding of animation as a cultural and relational practice.
