Mario Lodi

Mario Lodi

Mario Lodi was born in Piadena in 1922 and qualified as a teacher in 1940. His opposition to Fascism and encounter with the Movimento di Cooperazione Educativa guided him towards a democratic school that recognised children as creators of culture.

In San Giovanni in Croce and Vho he transformed the classroom into a workshop: conversation, environmental inquiry, free writing, painting, newspapers and cooperative organisation shaped experiences documented in C’è speranza se questo accade al Vho and Il paese sbagliato. He also wrote children’s fiction, including Cipì. In 1989 he founded the Casa delle Arti e del Gioco. He died in 2014.
