Blue Ocean Strategy invites us to move beyond incremental improvement in a crowded space, redefine the problem and explore new possibilities. In education this is not about competition: it becomes lateral thinking about value for learners.

Like the Business Model Canvas and other visual frameworks, it also puts work into perspective. It makes choices visible, supports planning and business-plan development, and cultivates an entrepreneurial perspective connecting value, audiences, priorities and sustainability.

An educational reinterpretation

• Eliminate habits and steps that consume time without supporting learning.
• Reduce overload, redundancy and unnecessary complexity.
• Raise autonomy, meaning, feedback and participation.
• Create new experiences, roles and connections.

Design questions

• Which conventions of schooling are we treating as inevitable?
• What no longer helps, or does not help everyone in the same way?
• What experience becomes possible if several elements change together?
